EAST COAST BAGS

⛵
All of the sails I use are 100% recycled.
Each bag is hand-sewn, so it is UNIQUE and is designed and manufactured taking into account the existing original features, so each bag has its own identity.
I sew individual and custom-made bags from used sails that have sailed the oceans and are now given a new life. The sails may show slight discolouration, these are typical signs of wear. They are not a flaw.
That means, I look at the sail to be processed and create a sketch that incorporates the existing features of the sail, e.g. ropes, shackles, eyelets, stanchions or the HEAD of the sail in the new bag.
Then I can cut the canvas bag individually: Should it be a large or small messenger bag, a large bag for stowing beach items, a weekend bag or hand luggage or a small boxy bag for small items that otherwise get mixed up in the bag, or a bag for men or a small clutch for women that only holds a few things like wallet, keys, mobile phone.
Canvas is not very easy to sew because it is very tightly woven. The individual parts such as the outer pocket, inner pocket, straps cannot simply be pinned.
I use 2 sewing machines, a Pfaff and a Sailrite, a real sailmaker's machine.
Depending on who the bag is designed for and for what purpose, the colors, other materials and accessories come into play, e.g. leather, waxed cotton, additional eyelets, carabiners, webbing, etc.
Of course, individual requests are also taken into account.
The bottom is made of Teflon. This material is water-repellent and dirt-repellent, so you can put the bag on the floor without damaging it.
The thread I use is a bonded (coated) high-performance special sewing thread that is UV-resistant and hard-wearing.
Half rings and carabiners as well as sliders for the belt are made of stainless steel, which is more expensive, but simply durable and beautiful.
When I've put all the accessories together, I start sewing.
The entire procedure is time-consuming, but fun and results in a beautiful canvas bag that you can enjoy for a long time.
